WHAT
Approximately 38.23 million tons of waste ends up in Texas landfills annually. Bobcats Give Back tackles this problem head-on, providing sustainable alternatives to students looking to dispose of materials as they move off campus. Residents of on-campus housing complexes may donate items which fall into the following categories:
- Wardrobe
- Home goods
- Electronics and small appliances
- Non-perishable food
- Hygiene and home cleaners
- Bedding and towels
WHY
After sorting and collection, community groups can register for “shopping days” in which each group is designated a time ticket to collect their chosen items for free. At a time when Hays County is one of the fastest growing regions in the United States, it is both necessary and possible for institutions to be a part of the change that will ease pressure on waste management systems and on the pockets of Central Texas community members.
